A senior creative lead for your team, without hiring one full time

I join your team as its creative lead, the role many people call a fractional creative director. I set the direction, plan the work, brief and manage the specialists who help make it, and make sure it goes out on schedule.

Who this is for

Teams that need senior creative leadership but don't have it in-house. Often there's someone smart doing marketing on the side of a bigger job, a few freelancers who each need direction, and more ideas than anyone has time to finish.

I've worked with brands and teams across venture capital and startups, technology, government contracting, nonprofits, healthcare and wellness, law, real estate and consumer brands.

What's included

What I can own for your team

Not every engagement includes all of it. We decide together what I own.

  1. 1

    Strategy and a plan

Creative and marketing strategy, and a plan your team can keep up with.

  2. 2

    Content planning

Calendars across social, video and email.

  3. 3

    Direction and review

For video, design and writing, before anything goes out.

  4. 4

    Running the specialists

Briefing and managing editors, designers, writers and developers.

  5. 5

    Websites

Updates and upkeep, and managing whoever builds them.

  6. 6

    Reporting

Monthly, in plain language, with changes to the plan when something isn't working.

  7. 7

    A second opinion

On decisions that go beyond the brief.

How it's different

An agency gives you a team, and usually an account manager in between you and the people doing the work. A freelancer does what you ask. A full-time creative director is a big hire before you know exactly what the role needs.

Working with me sits between those. You get one experienced person who decides what's worth making, gets it made with the right specialists, and keeps it going. I'm your single point of contact for all of it.

When it isn't a fit

It works best when you know what the business is trying to do and you want someone with an opinion on how to get there. If you're still working out the basics of the business, or you want someone to carry out instructions without weighing in, I'm probably not the right person.

You’ve done a fantastic job hiring Emily and shaping a content calendar that includes both the topic videos and the carousel or graphic content each week.

Common questions

Something else on your mind? Ask it when you get in touch.

How much does it cost?

Most of my work is billed hourly, and defined projects can have a project rate instead. What moves the number is how much needs to go out, how many channels, and how much production help the work needs. If you share a rough budget when you get in touch, I'll tell you plainly what it can cover.

Who actually does the work?

I lead it and do a lot of it myself. When the work needs more hands, I bring in editors, designers and other specialists I know and manage them directly, so you still have one point of contact.

Do you work remotely?

Yes. I'm based near Denver, Colorado, and work with clients wherever they are.

Need someone to own the work week to week?

Tell me what you're working on.

Whether you need help working out what to do or someone to run work you've already planned, a few lines about your team and what you need is plenty. I read every message myself.
